What/Who is DBA?
DBA is Database administrator, Who maintains the databases. Databases like Oracle, SQLServer, Sybase, DB2, MySQL, Tera data, PostgreSQL, Ingress etc.
What is DBA’s roles and responsibilities?
Designing the database
Database Creation
Database monitoring
Configure client and server connections
To configure and maintain DR site.
Defining and implementing Backup strategy
Tuning database
Configuring HA Activities
Create scripts to automate jobs
and more…
How to become a DBA?
In Most of the companies interviewers look for
Either
50% technical and 50% communication
- Who can manage technical issues and to handle client. He can easily adopt and can become a Technical manager or a Solution Architect soon.
OR
90% technical and 10% communication
- Who is skilled DBA and can’t speak fluent english, but can expain to his team lead or his reporting person in his native language.This person can become topper and a vital resource for a organization if he is recognized. Mostly his interest is to become a solution architect but sure not a Team lead or Manager.
OR
20% technical and 80% communication (Depends on the interviewer )
- Who speak wells and can manage client. He can survive if he is able to get job done from others.  But he can become a Manager soon.
How to enter into a company as a DBA?
Frankly Speaking,
Company rarely takes fresh DBAs. So people who learn DBA and technically sound  finds very tough to get a job. Whereever they go , they are asked for experience. So they are forced to put fake experience and try for the job.
Some organizations understand their technical capability and gives a opportunity. The only difference is, these students don’t have PROCESS knowledge, when compared to real time DBAs. These PROCESS  knowledge can be learned very soon.  I have seen students who joined in a company and are best performers now. You name the award in that organization, they got that. These students will use this opportunity  and work hard to stick into the job. They will also stay more years to remove the fake. But many companies are not using this opportunity because of their GREAT POLICY.
There are some organizations  who interview these students with fake experience certificates. There will be  2 technical rounds(from DBAs and client-DBAs)  and one HR round. They get short-listed and will join the company with in 1 month.  There is team called Background verification team who checks about the student and will find that they have fake experience.  Then the company will terminate him. If they really consider their technical knowledge and give opportunity as fresher there will NOT be any fake companies. Incase if any HR gets chance to read this, please consider.
Just check how skilled and techie is the student who is a fresher also capable to qualify the interview from a real experienced person.  The company can at least consider him as a fresher. Even these students can challenge some experienced DBAs technically.I am sorry NOT ALL DBAs.(There are people who always update their knowledge even after they are in job. Hats-off to them. Where ever they go they will be the king.)
Anyway as usual, we recommend fresher can try as a fresher (OCP is added advantage ) and any programmer with more than  2 yrs experience can update their knowledge in DB Administration  and can easily enter as DBA. If the candidate is from any recognized organization (or MNC) they can enter into DBA with in 3 months of GOOD training.
There was no intention to hurt anyone in this. Just a common problem that some students face.
